Do you miss "dressing up" for the meetings?
by dozy ini was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.
all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.
my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.

1/1/11 WT Using One Myth to Support Another
by WalkTall ini thought this was pretty hysterical and something that i would have never noticed before i woke up.
in the jan 1 wt under the heading 'was the garden of eden a real place?
part of the reasoning they use as to why no one could find the garden of eden even though there are specifics in genesis identifying it's location is because "the flood of noah's day may have altered the topography in ways that we simply cannot know today".

Arrangement
by Yan Bibiyan inarrangement is probably one of the most misapplied words in the wt lingo.
its frequency of appearance in the watchtower alone is 180 times greater than the bible itself (from 2008 wt cd - arrangement is used 2333 times in the watchtower publication vs. only 13 times in the bible).. when speaking of an arrangement, one is conditioned to expect a conscious effort aimed for betterment.. in a musical arrangement for example, musicians put an effort to sequence, harmonize and combine musical instruments into a composition of sounds that best conveys the composers ideas and creative force.
in a flower arrangement, the florist uses individual flowers to put together a visually pleasing bouquet.

Arrangement is probably one of the most misapplied words in the WT lingo. Its frequency of appearance in the Watchtower alone is 180 times greater than the Bible itself (from 2008 WT CD - “Arrangement” is used 2333 times in The Watchtower publication vs. only 13 times in the Bible).
When speaking of an “arrangement”, one is conditioned to expect a conscious effort aimed for betterment.
In a musical arrangement for example, musicians put an effort to sequence, harmonize and combine musical instruments into a composition of sounds that best conveys the composer’s ideas and creative force. In a flower arrangement, the florist uses individual flowers to put together a visually pleasing bouquet. In a seating arrangement, chars are situated in the best possible way for the audience to experience the presented program….you get the idea.
Enter the Watch Tower.
Disfellowshiping and resulting shunning is arguably one of the top ten WT practices that rightfully draw heavy criticism. Making it an “arrangement” not only does not help soften the resulting blow, but actually adds an insult to the injury by trying to present this harsh and unbiblical act as some kind of love! Disfellowshipping results in the spiritual, social, and sometimes physical death of the disfellowshipped.
Lets see if used as “arrangements” other inhumane acts are more appealing:
The Nazi gas chambers could be: “Confined Space Chemical Asphyxiation Arrangement”
The Stalin firing squads could be: “Supersonic Lead Projectile Piercing Arrangement”
Iranian public hangings could be: “Gravity-Assisted Vertebrae Separation Arrangement”
Al-Qaida suicide bombers could be: “Shock Wave Tissue Separation Arrangement”
Death by lethal injection could be: “Barbiturate, Paralytic, and Potassium Solution Overdose Arrangement”
Sugarcoating does not change the underlying act; it makes it appear worse because of the added level of insincerity.
Its about time for the Governing Body to "get it" and change its practices before completely throwing the religion into the “Soiled Adult Diaper Arrangement”.

I'm going to end my "bible" study
by KristiKay ini posted a while back, i've been studying with a nice jehovas witness lady for probably about 6 months.
after a few weeks i googled a few things (earthquakes, how long we've been on earth, ect.
) i realised she was very misinformed.

You go girl!
I second everything that was said above. Good for you using your God-given ability to "discern" (a nice JW buzzword)!

Window Washers
by dontplaceliterature inquestion:.
why do i see so frequently the witnesses referred to as "window washers" on here?
i have been a witness (though only recently "conscious") for my whole life.

My study conductor (elder in his late 20s at the time) was a window washer. Honest to God!

Simon, Could You Pull and Post a Report...
by Yan Bibiyan in...on how many people have joined jwn during the years?.
lately i seem to see an influx of new people signing up.
a report of user sign-ups maybe by year or whatever breakdown available could be very "upbuilding" and "encouraging" to lurkers.
-
Yan Bibiyan
Well, if simon could anonymize the user table in the db and dump it i would be happy to make some graphs.
Next thing you know, we'll have a live ticker and candle stick graphs on the new homepage with people running fundamental and technical analysis on the membership trends

Front Load Washers. Are they good?
by Iamallcool ini have been thinking about getting front load washer for my home, but i have not decided which brand, etc to get.
any recommendations?.
-
Yan Bibiyan
Replaced our top loaders with front loaders by necessity as they died within a week. Mrs. swears we should have done this years ago.
I am from an European origin, so front loaders were not new to me, but todays versions with direct-drive motors are superbly more quiet and efficient.

Greetings to All, No Longer Lurking
by Franklin Massey inclaustrophobic.
that's the simplest way for me to express how i feel in the wt org.
like many here, my eyes were slowly opened over the years as i did more earnest research, trying to reconcile some long standing spiritual quandaries.

...on how many people have joined JWN during the years?
Lately I seem to see an influx of new people signing up. Is it just me?
A report of user sign-ups maybe by year or whatever breakdown available could be very "upbuilding" and "encouraging" to lurkers. It can's hurt for the regular posters too to see ever growing anti-WT base. "Service Reports" should not be a WT-only tool...
Just a thought....
